Regular Dental Cleaning Appointment

When no gum disease is present, a regular dental cleaning can be performed in a single hour or less, and the entire mouth will be treated during that appointment.

Your dental hygienist with use professional instruments such as ultrasonic scalers which use sound waves to break up bacteria and clean above and below the gum line, in areas your tooth brush and floss cannot reach. A dental cleaning by a professional will disrupt the film of bacteria that are always building in our mouths. When disrupted, this biofilm is reduced and rinsed away, and we are able to prevent the hardening of the biofilm, which causes tartar and leads to dental problems.

Schedule your preventative dental hygiene appointment today and keep those pearly whites looking beautiful!

Deep Cleaning For Gum Disease

For people with gum disease, a regular dental cleaning may not be enough. If you are newly diagnosed with gum disease, you may likely have a high volume of hardened tarter and plaque build up on your teeth, and this is contributing to swollen or bleeding gums. This tartar buildup will take additional time and care to remove.

Gum disease require an initial stage of deep cleaning before a regular routine of dental cleanings and checkups can be established. Depending on the severity of the condition which can range from mild gingivitis to advanced periodontitis, multiple appointments will be needed. You may need:

  • 2 x 1-hour appointments to treat the upper left and lower left + upper right and lower right, or
  • 4 x 1-hour appointments to treat each quadrant of the mouth separately
  • An alternate plan prescribed by the dentist based on unique conditions
